Pacific island jurisdictions and sponsor-country locator A Pacific-centered coordinate map. Gray coastlines show sponsor and funder nations Taiwan, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States at true map scale, clipped to the map frame. Colored circle area represents the selected metric, with a minimum visible mark; circles are selectable.

Gray shapes are sponsor/funder coastlines at true map scale (Natural Earth 1:10m), clipped to the map frame; colored circles are area symbols, not maritime boundaries. Kiribati’s three island groups are aggregated.

FULL COMPARISON

Every jurisdiction, one sortable view.

Broadband is fixed subscriptions per 100 people. Cyber readiness is the ITU GCI score and tier. AI readiness is the 2025 Oxford Insights score. Unassessed jurisdictions are marked rather than assigned a sovereign-country proxy.

METHOD & SOURCES

Comparable by design.
Transparent about limits.

EEZ area. Calculated from the Flanders Marine Institute’s Maritime Boundaries Geodatabase v12 (25 Oct 2023). The dataset uses treaty lines where available and median lines otherwise. Its EEZ polygons include internal, archipelagic, and territorial waters, which differs from the strict UNCLOS definition. Kiribati is the sum of its Gilbert, Phoenix, and Line group polygons.

Land area. Latest common year (2023) from the Pacific Community’s Pacific Data Hub land-area series, sourced to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. Values are intentionally kept at the source’s published precision.

Market-card maps. Island outlines are traced from GADM 4.1 national boundaries, lightly simplified for the web, not EEZ outlines. Sponsor-country coastlines on the locator map use Natural Earth 1:10m data. Each map preserves geographic orientation, marks the national or territorial capital, and identifies Fakaofo as Tokelau’s administrative centre.

Population and maritime density. Latest available mid-year estimates draw on the World Bank World Development Indicators, the Pacific Community’s Population Projections dataflow, and releases from ISPF, ISEE, and INSEE. Most observations are 2025; Pitcairn is 2021 and Wallis and Futuna is 2023. Density is calculated here as residents per 1,000 km² of reported EEZ—not conventional land-area population density.

GDP. Nominal GDP is the latest published current-price U.S.-dollar value from World Development Indicators, SPC National Accounts, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, and releases from ISPF, CEROM, and Wallis and Futuna Statistics. Years are shown beside every value; Pitcairn’s 2005 and Wallis and Futuna’s 2019 observations are explicitly marked stale. French Pacific values are converted from XPF with the World Bank official exchange-rate series. Current-price values are not adjusted for inflation.

Economy anchors. “Economy anchor” combines the largest broad GDP sector with the leading export or fiscal activity, using official accounts and Asian Development Bank Key Indicators. It is not a harmonized single-industry GDP share, and fishing-access fees are government revenue rather than domestic fishing output. Each selected card links its profile source; an asterisk marks a limited-data proxy.

Fixed broadband. The table uses the latest available fixed-broadband subscriptions per 100 people from the ITU DataHub, including the World Bank-hosted ITU bulk dataset and the ITU-sourced World Development Indicators series. Years are shown beside each value. This is a subscription measure, not the share of unique people online, and mobile broadband is not included.

Cybersecurity readiness. Scores and tiers come from the ITU Global Cybersecurity Index 2024. The 0–100 score reflects national commitments across legal, technical, organizational, capacity-development, and cooperation pillars. ITU cautions that it does not measure current incidents, vulnerability exposure, or the real-world impact of controls. Territories without a separate profile are shown as not assessed.

Government AI readiness. The table reports the 0–100 score from the live web dataset accompanying the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index 2025, accessed 22 Sep 2026. The index assesses 195 governments across policy capacity, AI infrastructure, governance, public-sector adoption, development and diffusion, and resilience. Higher scores indicate stronger assessed readiness. Stanford HAI’s Global AI Vibrancy Tool was reviewed but covers only 36 countries and does not provide comparable scores for these Pacific jurisdictions.

Reference areas. U.S. and Australia land areas are 2023 values from the World Bank indicator AG.LND.TOTL.K2. U.S. city land areas use the U.S. Census Bureau. Taiwan’s 36,197 km² covers Taiwan and its outlying islands, as published by the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Taiwan at a Glance 2024–2025). Reference comparisons are orientation aids, not legal or geodetic equivalences.

Interpretation. This explorer shows a consistent comparative dataset, not a legal determination of sovereignty or unresolved boundaries. National publications can differ because of baselines, disputed zones, rounding, or whether internal waters are included.
